This article brings a reflection of the teaching-learning of mathematics in the 9th year of primary education, focused on the daily life of the students. The research was carried out in elementary municipal school Gerson de Albuquerque Maranhão, in Águas Belas-PE. Two models of classes were worked: the first one in a traditional way with an evaluation exercise, and the second in a practical way, related to their daily life. Then a satisfaction questionnaire was distributed with closed questions for students and teachers. The research was carried out with a total of 100 students and 10 math teachers. Through the analysis of the data it was noticed that among the students, there is a greater interest in participating in practical classes stimulating them to a better learning. As for the teachers, they pointed out that in their classes, there is no direct application with practical expositions, they only work with examples related to their daily lives. Therefore, the article points out the advantages of practicing mathematics in a practical way, by raising students' interest in participating in the lessons, thus contributing to better learning, as well as recognizing the importance of practical presentations by relating activities with their daily lives.
