About the Journal

Focus and Scope

CIENTEC, ISSN (online): 1984-9710, is an open-access electronic scientific journal linked to the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Pernambuco (IFPE) and managed by the Pro-Rectory for Research, Postgraduate Studies, and Innovation (PROPESQ). Founded in 2009, it publishes original and unpublished contributions in the fields of Exact and Earth Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Humanities, Applied Social Sciences and Literature, Agrarian and Biological Sciences, and Health Sciences. The journal accepts manuscripts in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, aiming to foster scientific exchange and contribute to the advancement of scientific, technological, and humanistic knowledge at national and international levels.

Peer Review Process

The CIENTEC Journal maintains an Editorial Board and a database of ad hoc reviewers comprising scientists and researchers affiliated with Brazilian and foreign institutions, who are responsible for the evaluation of submitted manuscripts.

Initial Assessment: Every submission undergoes a preliminary evaluation to verify its compliance with the editorial guidelines and the journal's scope. Manuscripts outside the scope are rejected. Manuscripts non-compliant with the guidelines receive a notification with specific adjustment requests. Only manuscripts approved in this stage proceed to peer review.

Peer Review: Manuscripts are forwarded to two ad hoc reviewers. In the event of divergent reports, a third reviewer is assigned. The process adopts the double-blind peer review system, ensuring the anonymity of both authors and reviewers. The deadline for issuing a review report is up to two weeks after the acceptance of the review invitation. The total time for an editorial decision is up to 6 months from the submission date.

Acceptance: Occurs when reviewers recommend publication without alterations. It is uncommon for a manuscript to be accepted without any revisions.

Acceptance with Revisions: When reviewers recommend publication conditioned upon adjustments, the manuscript is returned to the author for the required revisions and, upon resubmission, is subjected to the final editorial decision.

Rejection: May occur: (a) immediately after submission, due to inadequacy to the scope or failure to meet the guidelines; (b) after initial assessment or peer review; or (c) after manuscript revision and resubmission.

The evaluation criteria include: originality, theoretical and methodological consistency, relevance to the field, and compliance with the journal's standards. The files are processed by the iThenticate software for textual similarity auditing and plagiarism detection.

Publication Frequency

CIENTEC adopts a continuous publication system, allowing approved articles to be made available to the public immediately upon the conclusion of the editorial process, with volumes consolidated in June and December.

Open Access Policy

The CIENTEC Journal provides immediate open access to its content, without embargo, operating under the principle that the free availability of scientific knowledge contributes to the democratization of knowledge. The journal does not impose submission, evaluation, processing, or publication fees (APCs — Article Processing Charges) at any stage of the editorial process.

The CIENTEC Journal permits self-archiving on personal websites, institutional repositories, and thematic repositories. The deposit can be executed from the article's publication date, utilizing the editorial version (publisher's post-print).
