Abstract

The National Solid Waste Policy was established through Federal Law n. 12305/2010, instituting general guidelines to be applied by federative entities in their areas. However, even today, there is still a lot to be done, and collective support in such actions is essential. In order to build an active society, there must be awareness about its role as part of the context and mainly as part of the problem, which should be internalized by everyone. In order to observe the environmental perception of elementary school students, participatory research was carried out, with a qualitative and quantitative approach. Exploratory and descriptive, the research used the application of forms, field observation, and photographic records from the 5 th year elementary students of a Municipal School in the city of Limoeiro. The results show that in order to obtain assertiveness in environmental education, there must be continuous long-term work, with the intention of making students internalize the knowledge on such themes to the point that waste management becomes part of their routine.
