This work aims to provide a mathematical treatment of the double pendulum using lagrangian formalism. The double pendulum consists of a pendulum coupled to another pendulum through its mass.Double pendulum presents a more complex dynamics than simple pendulum, and demonstrates sensitivity to the initial conditions. Mathematical pendulum models are used for studies of different physical systems. In this work is proposed the use of lagrangean formulation to describe the double pendulum with its non-linear dynamic behavior.
