Among the diseases that cause high losses in banana on postharvest is anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum musae. This study aimed to evaluate the potential use of basil extract for control of anthracnose in banana on postharvest. The fungus C. musae was isolated from a banana showed typical symptoms of the disease. Healthy fruits were treated by immersion in crude extracts of basil at concentrations of 0, 10, 20, 30, 50% respectively. Next, inoculated with a conidia suspension of C. musae (10 6.conidios.mL -1) and stored for seven days. The incidence, severity and physical-chemical factors (pH, total acidity, soluble solids and weight loss) of the treated fruits were analysed. The experimental design was completely randomized with five treatments and four replications. Datas were submitted to variance and regression analysis. Disease severity was reduced from 39,58mm to 29,48mm the concentration to 10% of basil extract. There were no significant changes in physiochemical factors of the tested on bananas. The basil extract affected the development of the disease causing an estimated 25% reduction in lesion size, which demonstrates the potential for use as a promising technology in the management of banana anthracnose in postharvest.
