Assessment of the outcomes of restructuring in storage and retail environments

The execution of process optimization directly impacts cost reduction and profitability margins within retail environments. This paper analyzes process modifications at a retail Home Center in Campina Grande, Paraíba, focusing on layout reorganization and the execution parameters of receiving, storage, and shipping operations. The methodology applies ABC analysis and process mapping to restructure workflow and inventory control systems. A descriptive single case study was utilized, integrating qualitative and quantitative data collection methods from sales personnel, stock clerks, and the logistics team to systematically measure intervention outcomes. The operational data indicates the following metric variations post-intervention: a 72% increase in item handling efficiency, a 67% reduction in in-store travel distance, and a 67% reduction in product location time. Furthermore, quantitative assessments of area aesthetics and cleanliness parameters demonstrated an 86% increase. These structural and procedural alterations optimized the facility's logistics operations, while simultaneously modifying workplace conditions and safety protocols through spatial expansion and systematic cleaning routines. The analysis concludes that the implemented modifications in spatial layout and operational workflows increased the measured operational efficiency and correlated with customer retention metrics. Ultimately, the study quantifies the direct effect of layout configurations on operational outputs and the fulfillment of prevailing market demand requirements.
