Compliance with the BIOMAS Journal Template will guide the first stage of the submission process and editorial evaluation. Manuscripts that do not conform to the template will be returned to the authors for revision prior to being forwarded for peer review.

Journal Sections

The BIOMAS Journal publishes manuscripts in the following sections:

Article – An unpublished text resulting from original scientific research.

Experience Report – A text that precisely and systematically describes an experience that makes a relevant contribution to its field of practice.

Guidelines for Authors

– Author identification must be removed from the manuscript file and from the Word document properties, ensuring the journal’s confidentiality requirements.

– All authors must provide their ORCID at the time of submission.

– Manuscripts are primarily accepted in Portuguese; submissions in Spanish or English are also accepted, provided they are accompanied by a Portuguese–Spanish or Portuguese–English Language Revision and Translation Statement, except when the language corresponds to the author(s)’ original language.

Article: 12 to 15 pages (including references).
Experience Report: 8 to 12 pages (including references).
Maximum file size: 10 MB.

Margins: top and bottom 2.0 cm; left and right 2.0 cm.

– The text must be formatted with a 1.25 cm indentation in the first line of each paragraph.

– Articles must include an abstract in the language of the manuscript and an abstract in a foreign language (Spanish or English), with a maximum of 150 words, single-spaced, as well as keywords (minimum of three and maximum of five), separated by periods and beginning with capital letters. Keywords must appear both in the manuscript and in the submission form.

– Titles must be translated, using only the first letter capitalized, except for proper nouns.

– For manuscripts submitted in other languages, at least one title and one abstract must be provided in Portuguese.

– The text must be organized into unnumbered sections, with subtitles in bold, font size 12, using only the first letter capitalized.

– The following sections are mandatory: Introduction; Methodology; Results and Discussion; Final Considerations or Conclusions; References.

Tables, Charts, and Illustrations

Tables and charts must present a title at the top, centered, in font size 12. The identification “Table X” or “Chart X” must appear in bold, followed by a hyphen; the title itself should not be in bold.

Illustrations (graphs, maps, photographs, drawings, among others) must be inserted within the body of the text, in GIF or JPG format.

– The identification “Figure X” must appear in bold, followed by a hyphen. The title/caption must be presented below the figure, in font size 12, single-spaced, and justified. Indication of the source is mandatory, with an initial capital letter followed by a colon.

Citations and References

– References must be cited in the text using the author’s surname in uppercase letters and the year when enclosed in parentheses (TORRES, 1993), and in lowercase when incorporated into the sentence: According to Torres (1993).

– When the same author has more than one publication in the same year, these must be distinguished by letters (TORRES, 1993a, p. 66).
